He just bought it and we don't have manuals or diagrams yet. Can someone help me figure out the IAC location? I want to take the old one to our parts store to make sure the replacement is the same.

If you have the 2. If the V6 either 3. If it isn't there on the V6, you should still be looking for the same shaped part. It should be on the outside of the intake near the front and is usually plainly visible. Sign up to join this community. While holding it so that the motor is pointed up and the ports are at the bottom, spray it out with a good carburetor or throttle body cleaner.

Be careful not to get any cleaner in the motor portion of it. Make sure that the gasket is still good, and re-install the IAC. If the gasket is damaged, you can get a new one from the parts store. I chose to simply replace mine and not bother with cleaning it. Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Throttle Position Sensor Car won't accelerate, lacks power when accelerating, or accelerates itself.

Engine won't idle smoothly, idles too slowly, or stalls. Car accelerates, but won't exceed a relatively low speed, or shift up. Check Engine Light comes on, accompanied by any of the above behaviors. To reset the IAC valve pintle position proceed as follows: Block the drive wheels, then apply the parking brake firmly. Start the engine, then hold the engine speed above 2, rpm.

Turn the ignition OFF , then restart the engine and check for proper idle operation. The idle is controlled by the idle air control valve and if it cannot keep the engine idling it will keep trying to rev the engine up to compensate. A vacuum leak, sensor that has failed, or an EGR system malfunction could potentially be the cause of the erratic engine you're experiencing. The job of an idle air control valve is to regulate the car's idle based on how much air gets into the engine.

This is done through the vehicle's computer system and then sends the information to the components. Cleaning the throttle body itself can be done using carburetor fluid and a clean cloth for the removal of light sludge. During this process, the throttle position sensor should not be cleaned due to the possibility of contamination or wire damage. Resistance should be ohms. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 on the IAC valve.

The same happens with the power steering, which also uses electricity and increases the load in the IAC. Eventually, it will stop working and prevent the engine from working correctly. You may not experience a completely stalled engine, but a significant loss in RPM, which is another clear sign the IAC is faulty. In carburetted vehicles a similar device known as an idle speed control actuator is used.

Yes it will work on the IAC valve , but I prefer something more aggresive like brake parts cleaner. What happens when my throttle position sensor goes bad. Does Not Apply. Model Year:. Fits Year:. Fitment Type:. Direct Replacement. Additional Postage Required:. Non-Domestic Product:.
