What is the difference between uv and led nail lamps

When clients are exposed to ultraviolet light for five to 10 minutes every couple of weeks when they receive gel services, it significantly increases their exposure to harmful UV light from the sun, tanning beds, etc. Traditionally, gel nail polish is cured by UV wavelengths. The light emits a broad range of UV wavelengths at a lower concentration and energy than LED that hits molecules in the gel called photoinitiators, or compounds, that absorb light and convert it into the energy needed to drive the polymerization process.

LED lights work similarly, but they emit narrower UV wavelengths with higher concentration and more energy. These light emitting diodes target specific photoinitiators in the gel polish which enables the gel to cure much faster than UV. For the distinct reason that LED nail dryers offer a faster drying time compared to UV lights, they are said to be safer than UV lights.

A faster curing time equals less time one is exposed to harmful radiation, so this is a definite advantage for clients. Typically, UV bulbs must be changed after about 10, hours of use.

If they are not, they could impede the overall quality of your gel manicure. It sounds easy enough, right? You see, a gel nail polish is made to be different from a traditional nail polish.

It is designed to never evaporate, hence will not harden simply by air drying. These UV or LED lamps used to be really expensive and bulky, but there are a ton of quality nail lamp options available in a huge range of prices now.

UV and LED lamps both do the same thing: dry nail products. But a lot of you have asked us what the difference is between these two types of lamps.

You'll find out in this article! Let's start with a few definitions. The term LED means light-emitting diode: a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current is passed through it. An LED lamp is a lamp with multiple light-emitting diodes.

The term UV refers to a type of emitted light: ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light has a shorter wavelength than visible light between nm and nm.

It is invisible to the human eye. Manucurist lamps are a case in point! It will indicate on the bottle what type of lamp can be used with the product. Some gel polish brands recommend you use their own specially developed lamp for their particular formulas — this often is to ensure you are using the right wattage to avoid over curing the polish.
